Montessori Schools CurriculumBecause 80 percent of a child's development takes place before he or she is eight years old, Montessori schools like Montessori Country Academy takes special care in creating programs and curriculum that keep young children engaged and balance all areas of their development: social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual. Areas of study include: Practical Life
Children learn to care for themselves and others by understanding the importance of completing a task, cleaning up and returning the materials to the appropriate place, ready for the next person to use. Sensorial TrainingChildren learn best when allowed to touch, feel, hold, smell, listen, see and taste. Through exposure and experimentation children learn to put into order the similarities and differences of size, weight, color and sound. Later, these experiences will lend themselves to children's ability to organize their impressions of the world around them. MathematicsA basic tenet of a Montessori schools education is that understanding is often a matter of concrete experiences with dynamic materials. Manipulative materials help the child see and feel numbers, and thereby understand them more completely. Basic principles of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are taught first with materials the child can handle and manipulate. LanguageLanguage empowers children to express themselves and engage in their world. That's why we incorporate rich vocabulary into classroom activities and encourage children to participate in daily discussions as a way to help them organize their ideas. Reading and writing progress naturally, starting with letter sounds, then letter symbols, and eventually words, sentences and paragraphs. The Montessori Country Academy curriculum also includes Cultural Studies, Arts and Music and The Outdoor Environment. Click above to learn more...
